The Three D’s of Aging
Posted on Tuesday, June 7th, 2016 by Douglas StevensIn educating patients and blog readers, we have developed a method of categorizing the processes of facial aging allowing for a more comprehensible way to discuss the many ways to address these issues. We call this, “Three D’s of Aging.”
What Are The Three D’s of Aging?
Put simply, the three D’s of aging are the three ways that your face – skin, underlying fat, muscle and even bone – age over time.
As you age you will experience:
DESCENT – gravity always wins the tug of war between your facial structures and the center of the earth. Procedures such as browlifts and facelifts address this issue.
DEFLATION – Put simply, this is the loss of volume in your face. The loss of volume includes thinning of the skin, subcutaneous tissue and even the bone. Volumization with various fillers can restore the softness and fullness of youthful beauty. The newest filler, Bellafill®, is an FDA approved five year duration filler. Dr. Stevens is a nationwide to 1% injector and instructor in the use of Bellafill®. We have seen wonderful results with its use of the past three years.
DEGRADATION – Finally, the third D of aging is that of degradation of the skin, which is primarily caused by overexposure to sun rays. residents can be extremely susceptible to aging of the skin because of our wonderful outdoor lifestyle here in the sunshine state. We have a variety of lasers, light source therapy, skin care or facials performed by our wonderful aesthetician, Paula, to correct this D.
Why Does This Matter to You?
When considering the three D’s, it is important to recognize that you – like most other residents – are subject to these forms of aging. No human is immune to gravity or sunlight. However, that doesn’t mean you have to accept degradation, deflation, and descent. Instead, you can select a cosmetic procedure – surgical or non-surgical – that addresses your D concerns.
