Sun Exposure and Your Skin
Posted on Wednesday, March 30th, 2016 by Douglas StevensWithin our community, we can enjoy the sun and surf most of the year. This is definitely a perk of living in this climate that is always warm. However, this benefit can also have its negative effects: the sun can damage your skin if you spend too much time in it without proper protection. Throughout the years, skin can wrinkle and sunspots can pop up on the arms, face, and legs.
The Effects of Sunlight
The fact of the matter is, sunlight can cause the skin to age prematurely, and discolorations on the body can appear due to overexposure to sunlight. This can occur on all skin tones, but are significantly more prominent on fairer-skinned individuals.
Knowing this effect, and knowing all the other concerns that overexposure to sunlight can cause, is enlightening to many of our patients who live and work in the area. In knowing this can occur, the next step is to combat it or reverse the damage.
Combating Those Effects
To combat the premature aging that occurs with lots of sunlight exposure, consider getting a cosmetic procedure that can reverse the damage done. Some options include:
- Light Source Therapy (IPL)
- Chemical Peels
- Microdermabrasion
- Skin Rejuvenation with our unique Simplicity line of skin care
- Micro Needling (Derma Pen)
Any of these five avenues can reverse the effects of or improve the appearance of sun-damaged skin. For information on any of these procedures, contact the Douglas M. Stevens, M.D. team. Our professional and trained staff are well-versed in these aesthetic therapies.
