When you think of your favorite things about Fort Myers, beautiful beaches probably come to mind. If you live in or around our Florida community, you may spend a lot of time enjoying the warm sunshine on the shores of our beaches. Unfortunately, if you are not careful, all of those sunny days spent basking on the beaches can damage your skin.

Common signs of sun damage include age or sun spots, lines and wrinkles or a generally ruddy complexion. If you have developed any of these changes in your skin, you might feel as though they make you look older than you really are.

A knowledgeable facial plastic surgeon can reverse signs of sun damage and help you recapture a youthful, clear complexion. At the practice of Fort Myers facial plastic surgeon Douglas Stevens, it is our mission to offer the best treatments for sun-damaged skin. Depending on the changes in your skin, you may benefit from one or more of the following treatments:

Wrinkle Treatments

Fine lines and wrinkles that form from muscle motion are treated with toxins like Botox®, Dysport® or the newest, Jeuveau®. Lines or grooves that are evident even when the face is at rest are treated with fractional CO2 laser skin resurfacing or fillers, such as the newest hyaluronic acid (HA) filler called Versa®. Versa is smooth but has excellent lifting power, combining the best features of earlier HA-based fillers. Various fillers, all with slightly different characteristics, are available and tailored to your needs.

Age or Sun Spot Treatments

Intense pulsed light (IPL) treatments can improve pigmentation (bringing it to the surface to flake away), a ruddy complexion and uneven skin texture as well as small spider-like vessels on the face. Three to four treatments are usually performed in a series, with each treatment separated by three weeks. No downtime is required.

Our newest Hydrafacial® system can also improve pigmentation as well as the overall texture of the skin. This has no downtime and leaves your skin looking and feeling great.

Ruddy Complexion Treatments

A blotchy or ruddy complexion can be improved with IPL as explained above, or with treatments from our advanced skin care line. Our expert aesthetician will assess your skin utilizing our Visia® system, which analyzes key factors such as your skin’s pigmentation, pore size, photo damage and wrinkles. Based on the results of your Visia report, our aesthetician can then recommend skin treatments and products to maximize your improvement and keep your skin looking and feeling healthy.
