HOW OFTEN SHOULD I SCHEDULE BELLAFILL® TREATMENT?

As Dr. Douglas Stevens mentioned in the last post, Bellafill® results typically take up to three months to stabilize. Something his Bellafill® patients often ask is: once the desired effects have appeared, how long can they be expected to last? Another common question: is it necessary to schedule Bellafill® treatment on a regular basis? Dr. Stevens, a trusted Fort Myers Bellafill® provider, instructor and top one percent Bellafill® injector nationwide, reveals the answer here.

The “Five Year Filler”

Bellafill® is sometimes referred to as the “five year filler,” because the formal FDA studies of the product show that Bellafill® lasts at least five years. Informal studies of the original formulation indicate that, in some patients, the results can last 5 years!

Many facial plastic surgeons consider Bellafill® to be a semi-permanent filler because the two ingredients (collagen and polymethylmethacrylate microspheres) in the formulation behave differently. The collagen is usually broken down and absorbed by the body after about three to six months. On the other hand, some of the PMMA microspheres are not broken down. PMMA works by stimulating the body’s cells to make new collagen to replace the collagen of the filler.

Everyone metabolizes Bellafill® differently, so the effects may wear off sooner in some than in others. Correction of the nasolabial folds tends to last longer than the correction of acne scars.

Some Bellafill® patients schedule a “touch-up” treatment after an extended period of time. In general, though, you do not need to plan for regular Bellafill® treatments. Once you are happy with your results, you can enjoy them for a very long time!
