At Douglas M. Stevens, MD, our staff cares about our patients and the community.  This includes the communities that have helped shape the people and professionals we have become. Practice founder, Dr. Stevens graduated from MIT prior to earning his medical degree from Albany Medical College.  He continues to be an active alumnus, interviewing aspiring local area high school seniors who wish to attend MIT.  Furthering his connection to the recent events, one of his three daughters is currently a student at MIT.

Dr. Stevens was distraught, along with the MIT community, to hear the tragic news of Sean A. Collier, a Patrol Officer for the university and only 27 years old, who was shot and killed three days after the Boston Marathon bombing. Following the bombing and tragic series of events that followed, Dr. Stevens donated to the Sean A. Collier Memorial Fund via the MIT Annual Fund and we are encouraging others to do the same.

“Sean Collier was a friend to the MIT community and was appreciated for his generous and playful nature. He participated with MIT students in outing club activities and knew many students by name,” commented Dr. Stevens. “Sean will be missed by the MIT community and we all hope that this fund will help keep his memory alive.”

According to MIT, “In tribute to Officer Collier, the Institute has created the Sean A. Collier Memorial Fund. Gifts to this fund will be used to establish a Collier Medal—to be awarded to individuals who demonstrate the values and character of Officer Collier—as well as other causes.” Please help heal the wounds left behind by the tragic shooting at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
