Jeuveau Uses
Like Botox, Jeuveau is an FDA-approved injectable neurotoxin. It uses purified botulinum toxin to temporarily reduce the activity of the muscles that leads to dynamic wrinkles, or wrinkles that appear when making facial expressions such as frowning or squinting. As the targeted muscles relax, the overlying wrinkle becomes less noticeable.
The most common use for Jeuveau is to relax moderate to severe glabellar lines — a.k.a., vertical frown lines that form between the eyebrows. Our practice also uses Jeuveau to improve the look of forehead furrows and fine lines around the outer corners of the eyes.
Jeuveau Benefits
Jeuveau can be easily administered during a quick office appointment with Dr. Douglas Stevens. No recovery downtime is necessary, and patients are usually able to resume their daily routine almost immediately after the appointment.
Jeuveau results appear very soon after treatment. The skin in the treated area looks smoother, softer and more youthful. The effects of Jeuveau treatment last an average of four to five months.
Some patients are curious whether there are any risks associated with switching from Botox or another neurotoxin to Jeuveau. This is completely safe, as long as treatment is overseen by an experienced injector.
Jeuveau Side Effects
When injected by a qualified provider such as Dr. Stevens, serious side effects from Jeuveau are very rare. Patients may experience mild temporary redness, tenderness and bruising.
Jeuveau vs. Botox
Jeuveau and Botox are very similar compounds. One distinction is that Jeuveau is prepared differently from Botox to make the product purer. Also, Jeuveau is currently only FDA-approved for the treatment of glabellar lines, whereas Botox is approved for multiple cosmetic and medical uses (e.g., excessive sweating). And, Jeuveau is slightly less expensive than Botox.
